Not every place will recognize them. They will soon go the wa of 2 and 3 cent pieces, which you could actually spend.

I spend them all the time. Only had to explain what they were once or twice. I use them at toll booths often.

I have actually had the person in line behind me checking out buy the halves or dollar coins from the cashier when I was done. One woman asked if I had more and I told her I did and she bought those also. The same has happened with two dollar bills.

I just used 6 dollar coins to pay for a meal at a drive through burger joint and I must say just grabbing 6 coins out of my cup holder instead of unbuckeling, grabbing my wallet, counting 6 dollars or a 10 and wait for the change to then put it back in my wallet, then put wallet back in pocket, buckle up again... dollar coins rock as car $

I spent some recently. I had no problem, but the teenaged cashier said, "Whoa, I've never seen one of these before!"
Made their day I guess!

I have spent all of the Half Dollars I came across in the 'States, without any problem at all.
Australian half dollars (50c) of about the same size, are in very common circulation.

all the time. Bought a 10 inch tablet back in December with about 9 rolls of them.

People in Canada still on occasion spend 50 cent pieces. My sister works as a cash supervisor for a pharmacy and gets some about every 3 weeks. In fact she gave me 6 of them last Friday. Of course I am never lucky enough for them to be silver. She has even got a couple of U.S. half dollars

Yes. Clerks seem to prefer them to nickels and dimes and pennies when using coins to pay for a $20-30 purchase in my experience. Lol. Whenever I have someone pay with halves(fairly often. A regular is a roll searcher and pays with them) I also hand them back out in change instead of 2 quarters. I've never had anyone complain or get upset by doing so even though some employees are afraid if they give them out in change it will happen.

Stopped by a local bank, picked up a roll from the vault. Looked them over -- all 71-74, no appeal that I could find -- so I bought a set of Special Olympics forever stamps with them.
