What would you do with your collection if you found out you were dieing? i have one kid looking at 130 years in prison, another kid looking to follow in his foot steps, a soon to be ex wife that I love very much. the soon to be ex has no clue about coins. she gets the life insurance anyways, so I guess my only real option is to sell the coins and put cash in bank then she can have all the money and sell the rest of my stuff. would like to hear some ideas..thanks

Are you dying? Sorry to hear about all your troubles.
I would have my coins appraised and liquidated, except for a few choice pieces that I'd want to give to specific people.

Sorry to hear of the circumstances you are facing. I hope the dying part is hypothetical. What is the estimated value of the collection?

i will find out more over the next couple of days, but it really doesn't matter any more. I will be homeless in 60 days anyways..lol it just keeps getting better, went to docs today and he tells me this crap, what a way to spend your birthday.. i will have to take the albums full of coins to my dealer then and have him give me an estimate on them, I know that NGC places a value on just the proof graded jefferson set at $9300.00 and ranks num 9 on their site and I know they are high on some of their graded coins but I think a real value should be around $4500.00 to $6500.00 just for the nickels.plus I have 19 dansco albums of coins..so I guess its off to my dealer after doc appt tomorrow..

Tuff man, sorry to hear it. If it were me I would let that news sit and digest for a while (unless the prognosis is very soon) and maybe there are some ccf members near you that can help? Overall though I say if you have enough time sell and travel to that one place anywhere in the world you have always wanted to go, do it!

Sorry to hear about everything. If I was in your situation, I would leave my coins to my dream. I would start a charity / trust that will hold land for the family. Cheap cheap land, ideally with some cash to pay for future taxes or some sort of income from the land to pay for taxes like mineral rights or timber rights. I often browse this website for land. http://www.landwatch.com/Maybe you don't think you have the budget for this, you just may. Here are places in Canada under $25,000. Lots of acreage to spread your ashes across to fertilize your memorial forest. http://www.landwatch.com/default.as...00&sort=SZ_DYou can get over 100 acres for $20,000. Note those prices are Canadian too which means take basically 15 - 20% off for currency.

I'm so sorry. Thinking of you. Do you have any resources for housing in Florida?

Cardman06, our prayers are with you. Try to stay positive, it can be very easy to slide into a depression in your situation.

This is sad. You need professional help. Go to your lawyer or find a lawyer that can help you out. There are too many complications involving death, inheritance and taxes. This needs to be done ASAP. Sorry our friend of CCF having joined in 2011.

cardman06, Feel free to vent here to your CCF friends whenever you feel the need. Take things as slow as possible and try not to overwhelm yourself. Is there a friend there in Florida you can talk with? Keep us updated please, you have us (me) a bit concerned. John1

This is really tragic. You must have a good idea of what your collection is worth. Unless it's top-drawer material, I would consider talking it over with dealers you have trusted in the past to start. And yes, by all means, get a lawyer! Prayers with you.

Sorry to hear about your situation. If you don't have anyone to give the coin(s) to why not sell them off and do something fun? Maybe there is a place you've always wanted to visit or something like that? Again sorry to hear.. hope everything works out for you!

Everyone, this is important. Make these decisions NOW. Once I had my stroke, it wasn't up to me any longer.

I've actually imagined in my head me in my 70s and what I would do with my collection. Because no one in my family collects coins, I would just have to sell them. In my eyes, it would be the right thing to do; I wouldn't want to strain my family with the funeral costs and I definitely wouldn't want to be a burden to them because of the costs. As for you, I am sorry to hear all of that. I go to this forum just to see what other coins and cool stuff everyone else is getting into, but beyond the computer screen, I am still a human who loves and cares. Tist counts for all of us; we aren't all coin-o-holics all the time. I don't know about everyone else, but stories like yours tug at my heart strings and I realize that there may seem like there is nothing pleasant about the whole situation and it may even seem unsolvable, but trust me on this; there is a way out to all problems, even yours. Hugs might not help, but they sure cannot hurt. There is strength in numbers. As long as we are here you are not alone.
