Has anyone tried walking into a store and used their 50 cent coins?

ive NEVER found a half dollar in change. let alone someone using one. dont cashiers give you a weird look when you hand them a half dollar?
well in canada, we call a 50 cent coin. not a half dollar.

I currently have a couple hundred worth of sac, SBA & pres $1 coins as well as about $150 in Kennedy halves. I plan on spending every one... also, I keep a $25 of the $1 coins in my car as a "just incase" reserve. (I was a boy scout)

Here's a good conversation on when they stopped circulating in Canada. https://goccf.com/t/215870I've never spent them personally, just cashed them in at the bank.

In the recent past I've used them all the time. However, recently just can't get them at a bank anymore.

When I have them, I put them back into circulation.

I rarely spend them, but I do get them from the bank frequently when I ask if they have any they'll "sell" me.
I think if I tried to spend them I might get a funny look or two but other than that I doubt there would be a problem.

I spend some, but the majority of mine gets recycled through the bank.

I was spending them all the time. I had a cashier gripe that they wouldn't fit in her till, but usually they don't even flinch. I know someone that pays their mortgage in 50 cent pieces. Related note, all the Ike dollars I get, I sell at face to my buddy, who gives them as tips when his family takes their tropical vacations. The locals go gaga over them!

I've probably put $300-400 into circulation over the past 5 years. I would roll up the rejects from my boxes if I needed the casb, but the rest I would use for most purchases of less than $3. I get some strange looks and questions, but at least 95% of Cashiers know they are real. Never had anyone refuse to take them yet.

I don't usually have any half dollars to spend, but I have definitely done so in the past. I also try to buy them from gas stations when I know they have some, in case someone was in a bind and sold a silver half for gas or something. The other day, I went into a gas station and had the following conversation:
Me - Do you have anything interesting in the drawer, like half dollars or dollar coins? Him - I have some of these gold dollars, but they are not for sale. Me - Oh, you're not allowed to give them out? (confused since I have done this before) Him - No, I am buying them. Someone came in and spent them, but they're made of gold and I can get them for just a buck!
I think I educated him, though I think he may still believe I was trying to "scam" him out of "gold" coins. I didn't want the golden dollars anyway. I have enough.
