Can something like this occur? Is it legit?

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/161733806967...RK:MEBIDX:IT

You can see the faint '3' in the serial number.
Has anyone seen this type of error before?

thanks

I wouldn't call it missing. Hard to tell by the pics but a see a faint two. Likely removed with some chemical is my guess.

IMO
1. Determine if it is worth a good premium with the "ghost" of the missing number.
2. If so, have it authenticated by ?
3. If not, save it as a curiosity.

Seems odd that the same number is missing in both groups. I would be more convinced if there was only one group affected. IMO

Well, I tried the link in your post and says the item has been removed. However, here's a note I've had for years and still have no clue why the serial # is almost invisible. Others on the forum have suggested several possibilities. So it is possible to see notes missing their serial #s but BEWARE and be certain you can get a refund IF it turns out to be a 'manufactured' issue.
