The disconnected leaf isn't necessarily a clue. Keep in mind, the time between the original 8TF reverse and the final Reverse of 1879 was only about three weeks in March 1878. The Mint was scrambling to figure out how to meet a production schedule of $2 Million in silver a month, continuously modifying the design and reworking dies to keep them in production. As a result, this coin having a disconnected olive branch when the feature is not listed for the variety does not surprise me in the least. Report this Post to the Staff
