Hello everyone I purchased this 1909 Lincoln Cent a while back , it's one of the few graded copper coins I own .. I don't know a lot about copper coins as I've mainly stuck to silver dimes the past few years..Never the less I've been wanting a first year Wheat cent to go with my last year IHC ... Now I know quit a few will disagree with me here but I really like the older PCI coins , I have several of the old green label coins and I believe that PCI to be just as conservative as any of the top company's today .. Unfortunately this coin is in one of the golden label slabs and I don't have much experience with them .. So I'm wondering what you guys would grade this coin ? I will post the PCI grade later ... Green PCI Holders was the norm when I used them for both error coins and older 19th Century Coins. I have crossed over about a dozen to ANACS and only 1 dropped from a 65 to a 64 because of a "fingerprint", and all the others received the same grade or a point higher... The last time I used PCI was when they had their Signature Series Slabs for Variety Coins... I submitted a NGC MS65 to J.T.Stanton after NGC refused to place the die variety on the coin (variety fee was paid to NGC, then refund demanded after receiving coin)... The end result is my J.T.Stanton Signature Series variety Quarter has a CherryPickers Guide value of $500.00 with listed variety, ond only valued at $35.00 in a NGC plain slab... |

I don't mind some PCI slabs. I've seen some nice coins in them over the years...and I've seen some rotten ones.

I'm sure you guys noticed the three hits on the obverse , the feilds are pretty clean though .. Now the reverse looks good as far as any digs or hits but it has these scattered black spots .. Overall I like the coin and it is a bit redder than it appears in the photos ..
I didn't realize how tough it is to get a decent photo of a copper coin !! Way harder than silver , or atleast for me working with only a cell phone ..
PCI graded the coin MS62 red and brown ..
I wasn't sure but I thought it looked close!

That's a GREAT grade by PCI. Goes to show you, their slabs can't always be discounted.

As far as the old green label slabs go I have several that I believe would cross over to anacs or ngc possibly even pcgs without a problem !! It's these golden slabs that I'm careful about purchasing , here a bit ago I purchase a old Barber dime in a golden label holder from a bad listing photo on ebay .. It was a lower grade coin VF it went really cheap so I took a gambel , when I received the coin I was like wow how could this possibly be ? The coin look maybe Vg10 and that would have been generous. Then once after that I purchased a better date Mercury dime again in one of these golden slabs graded au53 , now it was kind of a 50/50 in my opinion that it would grade problem free as it had a few to many hairlines and not hardly enought luster . Truth be told I've had a lot more ( what in the world were they thinking ) moments with icg than I have any company , but really at the end of the day if your buying the coin and not the Slab it shouldn't matter what company's name it has on it !! Which green label?
10 digit s/n with two codes underneath the bar code is the oldest.
newer ones, 9 digit and 14 digit with just one code are less accurate.

I grade it MS63RB. I'll say pci gave it 63RB

Most of them are the older 10 digit slabs , I believe a few might be the 9 digit .
So far I haven't came across any of the Green label slabs that I didn't think was pretty close , some I'd even say are on the conservative side ...
