Quote: It doesn't matter how much money I would have to spend. I always look for good value for money in whatever I buy.
Could be any ancient, medieval, milled or modern World coin(s), U.S. or any other country. Having a very wide vision opens the possibility to all kinds of bargains, across the whole of numismatics.
It is good to be able to consider every coin at a show, and consider the possibility of a bargain for any of them. It depends on what I am lucky enough to find. Basically this, except I'm probably not going near many of the more exotic issues* because I couldn't distinguish one type from the other. And in even more cases, I don't actually know what exactly "good value for money" is, so probably will end up buying many coins that aren't actually worth as much as I thought they are (common date 19th century coins in particular). And $2k would probably be too much. I don't know what a FUN convention looks like (perhaps they don't have low-end bargain bins, and/or the people who make them know perfectly well what's in them), but from my personal experience of coin markets**, and multiplying by the sheer amount of money... unless I find something expensive that really interests me (perhaps a nice gold coin), I might well go away with several thousand coins that day. What I will not buy, unless I do not have a choice, is MS coins, especially high MS coins (perhaps I might buy a few slabs just for the novelty; certainly no raw high MS, unless, again, no other choice - too many storage worries). Though, for particularly nice-looking common types (I'm looking at you, Netherlands 1 cent***... Mercury dimes too, and probably many others I couldn't think of immediately), nice AU (which perhaps is a technical MS) is a definite possibility (just so I could admire all the pretty details). [I'm ignoring the question of what I'm doing in Tampa in the first place. Maybe the same nice guy got me a ticket and visa for my birthday (which is, in fact, in early January, though slightly too early for the show); would probably cost less than $2k, actually. At least, being January, it shouldn't be too hot. I heard Florida can be very hot in seasons closer to summer.] *) which, sadly, includes Parthian **) and that one "coin show" in Kaliningrad that might as well have been a market ***) Numista 2584

That is a tough one .. I would need more information, if I was going to suggest what you should buy. Like what are you working on, or what series you like the most.
For me, I have some back burner coins I would I would look for.
A proof Morgan or Barber or Seated half
A proof or high grade 20 cent
As back up I would list my five lowest grade coins, from my 7070, and see if could buy some nice upgrades

GR58 I'm just looking for ideas. I tried to look at it like a social experiment.Just sort of brainstorming I like most of the ideas presented, which suggest a pretty large purchase and perhaps a slightly smaller one. I collect just about anything and everything that is Classic US. I think I may end up buying a really nice Morgan and a few type coins.

I can understand that, and CCF is a great place to get ideas.
Your idea of taking 2K to the Fun show is a pretty good idea.
I might have to try that sometime. If I was going to do that, and had months to plan it, I am sure my idea of what coin(s) to buy would change many times.

I plan on getting rid of quite a bit of the "junk" in my collection and swapping it out for higher grade, quality coins. I'm planning on combining that with the money I'll save between now and January and predict I should end somewhere around there. I've been planning this for a few days now, and I've already changed quite a few times. I think I may use about 75% of it to buy a Jaw Dropper, and use the remaining 25% to buy whatever strikes me as a good deal or superb eye appeal.

A Saint-Gaudens $20, a Charlotte or Dahlonega mint classic gold coin...hmm, what else. MS65DMPL Morgans. Any Matte Proof Lincoln Cents. An 1893-S Morgan. Lots of possibilities.

Some of you might disagree, but I would rather have a few coins costing several hundred each than just one for two grand. Certain series and gold aside, you can get a lot of coin for $500.

You have no idea how much I just want to sell off a lot of my higher tier stuff to buy a gold $2.50... Then I just tell myself "Wait until my birthday/Christmas..." But everytime I go on ebay or look at the RedBook I just think of the possibilities even if I just sold part of my collection!

Nothing wrong with reorganising your collection to suit your new goals , I do this all the time You just have to remember that you will have to "Live with" the decision to sell a particular coin from your collections, this can be Tough. I recently was lucky enough to repurchase an MS65 Canberra Florin I reluctantly sold to finance some Gold acquisitions, That was a happy day

I would find the best struck, problem free, brown or red/brown 1909 S VDB in the place. No question.

COTW, I'd really hate to tell you what part of my collection it is. (Some LWC). I found myself never really pulling them out and looking at them. I know they have amazing history behind them.. but they just don't compare to a DMPL Morgan or some of the other coins in my collection I enjoy to gaze at. I feel as though I started the set just because I thought of it as easy, I still haven't finished it and may go after it again one day.. A lot of the coins are VG/G and they just don't POP when I take a look at the album. I'll probably end up buying a nice MS64-65 '09 VDB with part of the money. I feel that I will enjoy that coin more than the partial set of lower grade stuff.
