I am pretty sure this is a piece of scissel, but research on this site has turned up nothing (other than member Scissel!) I have read that scissel is quite scarce and could be valuable so any opinions on it are welcome. Thanks in advance!   |

Pieces of scissel I have seen, do not look like that...

My ears are burning! You would have had to have found it in a mint bag to be reasonably sure it was cent scissel & not something else (e.g., a fragment from some other manufactured item, washer scissel, etc). As SPP says, it does not look like typical scissel. Here is a picture of US cent scissel (I don't have a Canadian example):  |

Makes sense. The shape of the piece is all wrong. Probably the only way this is legitimately a pc of scissel is if someone had a larger piece and chopped it up to sell it in smaller pieces. I bought it as part of a lot of 1 cent errors so there is no way I can verify where it came from. Thanks for your replies.

What we can say is, there are roll markings on it. It also shows markings that one would expect to see from where a penny blank was cut from.
If you could validate the composition of the metal it may help verify that it is in fact a piece of scissel. I still however don't think there's enough of it to say that it is 100% genuine. Neat though!

This is scissel from Germany ( 2 pfennig strip). Any scissel fragment should be able to match any region of this strip. This one is coming in the mail, and I am pretty excited!!  Of course, it will have to pass an XRF test and a fit test with a 3.24 gram Type 1 planchet. But, given where the dealer recently bought it, I do have reason to believe it is legit. Well, what a revelation. I never knew they existed  . I wondered why there was going to be a discussion about carpets. I guess I should get out to a coin show more often (3 in over 50 years). This is my something-learned-every-day biggie today. I was reading the Encyclopedia Britannica when I was in grade 5 - guess I didn't get to S. Thanks for the post !  |

here is my scissel but not from coins.i saw this post and the strip looked alot like 3 dies I'm building right now at work,i cant tell you what part it makes as its confidential but I just wanted to show that if I have the sizes I can quite easily produce any quantity of scissel I want   |
