Here are some better pics of the scratch. Do you think it has a chance to grade problem free? I tried to get two angles so you can see what it looks like catching the light in different ways.

I wouldn't send it in again, I think you should sell it with the given pictures and be done. I think you can still get close to a straight-graded price.

Hehe, I realize it's been well over a year now but I FINALLY decided to sell one of these and thought it would be a good idea to throw a little more money at them and have them professionally photographed. Whaddya think!? Compared to my pics, these almost look completely different. Still, they are beautiful. Both were graded by NGC and they both spent a little time with NCS as well. You can see before pics back a few pages to see how much they were able to clean. First one is a clean AU55... Second example was graded AU-Details Reverse Scratched. This one just kills me because the overall strike is sharper and, IMO would have been a 58. If anyone cares to know who I used, I'm not sure if the mods will let me plug their business but I would be more than happy to share if it's allowed. Thanks for looking!

By all means. They're pretty good shots, especially from a 9 year old camera. These images have EXIF data still embedded, and I'm pretty curious to find out what lens they were using which EXIF reports at 185mm; Nikon doesn't have a macro lens of that focal length.

The second piece is much better struck up and the "scratch" looks old and relatively minor for a coin of this magnitude. The first piece, while still retaining decent eye appeal, was struck with worn dies.
IMO the Details piece is the far better example even with the minor scratch.

Thanks SuperDave. I used http://www.jkcoinphotography.com/ Super friendly and easy to work with. I suppose it's possible that he's a member here on the board but I don't know. Looks like he's done some pretty awesome work for the Smithsonian and has shot a large chunk of the Frank Stewart collection. Anyhow, his prices were completely reasonable and his turn around was lightning quick. I let him know you had a question about his setup, maybe he'll pop up here and answer. If not, and he answers, I'll report back. BH, I totally agree and, to be honest, I am still trying to decide which one to sell. One day I say I'm going to keep the straight grade just because it's a straight grade but I keep coming back to the overall strike and eye appeal of the details coin... I'm also a little worried about the staining left behind and the tiny black spots on the reverse of first one. NCS did a fantastic job of removing the verdigris and whatever else was there, but could it possible come back?

I don't think he's a member here, but he's a long-timer at the PCGS board and a username known to me over the years (now that I've connected those dots). Pretty good stick on the camera.

I will second what Conder101 says.
So where you going to auction off the pieces?
