Hello, I'm a new member to this board and have only been collecting coins for about 2 years or so. I have so much to learn yet, however, I find it intriguing at the same time. I save all my change and go through it when I'm able. I recently came across this 1964 Nickel that appears different than the rest. I conpared it next to a 1970 and another 1964 Nickel as pictured below. Would this just be considered an uncirculated coin? It's the "off color and fine detail" that has me questioning it. Any help is greatly appreciated

to the forum.

You may have a Proof coin. Need both sides when posting tro really tell. Proof coins are different than business strikes, the rim is a wire rim and is even all around and same thickness.

Looks like a very lightly circulated nickel as the hair does show some wear. Very nice 64 but with over a billion minted (whether it be a P or D) it really is just worth 5 cents. I'd keep it anyway though because of the condition.

Nice business strike, AU55 or AU58 meh-bee. With a strike like that it may have steps on the reverse which is kind of difficult to find on this year. It might be a D too. I keep higher AU, well struck, nickels like this that are hard to find with full steps sometimes. I wouldn't stick this one in the car ashtray.
That 70 S is a nice one too.

Thank you for the replies and for helping me identify this, here are a few pictures of the reverse... I found it difficult to capture all the details, including the steps. Through my magnifier I am able to see all the steps, however, it does appear nick marks are in the step area also.

It has a bit better detail than your average Phila 1964 business strike Jefferson nickel. It looks AU55 ish from these images and is unusual but not worth much over face except, I would be one to keep it.
Just because....
It is not worth over a dollar, that's for sure but keep looking, you have an eye for this.
