Just an examples of poor quality control at Winnipeg, how hard is it with todays technology to create a nice problem free coin.
Considering the obverse dies obviously are newly made for this particular commemorative issue, it certainly makes me question why such poor quality as well. It's as if the 5-packs, or at least some of them, were packaged up as an afterthought at the very end of the entire run. While I appreciate they were sold just at face value, because they were issued directly by RCM, it's a poor reflection (in more ways than one).

One if given the chance to visit the Winnipeg mint tour, please go it's worth the 45 minutes, but you will see a basic factory setting, it could be making washers if you didn't know it's the mint. T he presses are going at lightening speed but one expects they should know how long a dies should last before a change out, especially the obverse, they have has 3 years of experience with this loonie composition, hard to imagine a company producing poorer quality washers.

As much as I'd like to, taking a family vacation to Winnipeg just to tour the mint is proving a bit of a tough sell but some day I shall succeed, I'm sure. lol! However I did watch a video of RCM's fully automated production that was posted on this forum not long ago and from what I saw, you're absolutely right. Manufacturing of washers, as in nuts or bolts, faster than the eye can see is a very good comparison.

After looking closely at my coins the one I said was perfect also has a repair mark over the 1. These two repairs give the 1 two different looks... One has a convex curve to the top of the one and one has a concave curve to the top of the one.

As a Master Club Member, I was also restricted to one set only, I ordered more sets from J & M Coins in Vancouver.

@ WisBand you might prompt someone to become interested in using this 2016 loonie to conduct a sort of post-your-pics die study, whereby there's visual evidence of various stages of one (or more) particular die becoming progressively worn and possibly pitted eventually causing the Cud on the top of the "1", then the die is reworked in an attempt to somewhat repair it. Just an thought for those of you who enjoy the pursuit of minting anomalies.....

When they restrict the amount we can purchase I just make a few phone calls to some family members and tell them they have a package coming for me haha . They don't mind.

With all these die cracks I could not resist ordering a set. Will break out the loupe when it arrives.

Got my set today, only a small die crack attached to the feather at the top of the voters hat.
Perhaps an early die state.
Pretty pristine if I say so.

Picked up a second set and they have obverse and reverse cracks too, just really unattractive coins in quality.
