Hello everyone.

I just joined the forum or site as I am quite interested in numismatics and an avid coin collector myself. I'm a male and from Europe. My collection may not be the biggest or most impressive or expensive in the world, but it's a very fun hobby to me.

I've collected coins since early childhood and finally made the step last year to actually gain more knowledge and to get a more 'professional' attitude towards this hobby. This was also caused by me having a moving box full of coins, packed in flight bags, just sitting there in a box. And then my wife got me a coin album and some coin cards and told me to do something with it...

I focus on a few specific areas.

First of all, I always try to get a set of circulating coins from a country that I visit. That means that I have coins of about 80 countries by now, as not all countries actually have coins in circulation (Mongolia and Laos, for example...). Sometimes I am lucky and end up with several series of coins and even some more or less 'rare' pieces. This mostly filled up the moving box.

I also have a fondness of some specific countries. I just love British coins, like I love most of Britain. The abundant amount of different coins, the weirdness of some of them and the whole pre-decimal era make this country one of the most interesting ones I know. Another country is of course Norway, for obvious reasons and The Netherlands, as I have lived there for quite some years. Some of the top pieces (most of my silver and golden coins) come from these two countries.

In addition (yes, there's more!) I have a fondness of 2 Euro collectible coins, especially series, like the 'mandatory' EMU, Rome Convention, European flag, German states, etc.

Finally, as I travel to the USA a lot, I also started to collect State Quarters (just about 10 to go, including territories) and the probably least liked coin among Americans: the Dollar coin.

Anyway, I hope to learn a lot here, to have fun and hopefully to help people out a bit with my 'expertise' on aforementioned areas.

Sounds like a nice set of "pick things out of circulation" sets.

Thank you all for the welcome!

@Bstrauss3: You're quite correct, the large majority of my coins are circulation coins serving as 'souvenirs' from my travels and the places where I lived, usually later on expanded with the missing pieces for completeness sake (including commemorative and uncirculated pieces, including gold and silver). Most of that is Dutch and Norwegian (plus a fair amount of American half dollars and silver quarters). Especially that is a really nice challenge: getting hold of all pieces of those two countries in -preferably- very high quality. :)

(You probably guessed by now that I collect by series, not by years).
