I bought a microscope today and was going over some coins and my heart about stopped when I saw this. At 1st it looks like rust so I went and got a magnet and it passed that test. Anyone ever see this or have a clue of what it is? Thanks.

Carbon spots?
Try using acetone to remove it.

Just make sure it is 100% acetone. No additives.

Looks like either carbon spots or slag in the alloy. If it's slag you can't remove it, if it's carbon spots, only a quick dip on ezest will work but it's not a guarantee.

You can try soaking it in acetone for a day or two or seven first, and should, but I don't think it will have any appreciable effect. But try it first
