vergasond New Member United States 22 Posts	Posted 12/05/2016 2:54 pm Thanks for allowing me to enter site, I'm Dave and had a question on a coin I received. It is a 1854 O 3 dollar gold coin, it had a hole and someone before me filled it in with gold. I know it drastically reduces value but was wondering if anyone had a clue as to it's worth. Pictures are not great but date and mint mark are clearly visable (as is the filled hole). I know it is a rare mint coin but....Any help would be appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

This is a key date in the series and worth $1000 as a low grade example but the hole takes it well under that amount. Without better images it's really hard to say. It looks highly polished (for use as jewelry) though the hole is the major killer of collector value. A pity; I'd love to have an 1854-O $3 piece in my collection but I would have no interest in a damaged coin like this one. Report this Post to the Staff
