Thanks for allowing me to enter site, I'm Dave and had a question on a coin I received. It is a 1854 O 3 dollar gold coin, it had a hole and someone before me filled it in with gold. I know it drastically reduces value but was wondering if anyone had a clue as to it's worth. Pictures are not great but date and mint mark are clearly visable (as is the filled hole). I know it is a rare mint coin but....Any help would be appreciated.

I'd like to see better pics. This is a key date in the series and worth $1000 as a low grade example but the hole takes it well under that amount. Without better images it's really hard to say.

Welcome!

Assuming it is a genuine piece it might still appeal to a collector with limited funds. It looks highly polished (for use as jewelry) though the hole is the major killer of collector value. A pity; I'd love to have an 1854-O $3 piece in my collection but I would have no interest in a damaged coin like this one.
