I recently encountered someone who was the "lucky" purchaser of these two coins. I believe both are details with the quarter being AU/cleaned and half being UNC/EnvDmg/QC. But just out of curiosity, how did the person do? 122227235013 122227234980Gotta love those low res seller photos and also those juicy 2x2 descriptions! First one sold for 5.4k Second for 7.6k So...Win or flop? How much value did the person gain or lose buying these coin? Rest assured that said person is definitely not myself or any member of this forum. Edited by 0xDA71D 12/05/2016 01:59 am

If both coins are genuine and indeed in the condition they are said to be (which I doubt given the pics), then it's been the deal of a lifetime. For what I know, the 1852-O can easily do double that price in MS-62 condition and the same goes for the 1874-CC, which could perhaps sell for 4 times the final bid. However, such coins in raw condition with lousy pics on the epicenter of fake coins ( ebay)? I would never dare to make a bid.

Can't see anything close to enough detail on the first one from the picture to make a determination, but the second one looks like a cast counterfeit, to me. All the small pitting marks on the back just looks too much like a cast fake, although I will admit it could be environmental damage, as the obverse looks a little more environmental damage-y than cast fake (although poor quality photos). That said, I guess the fact that it is coming from ebay is sorta of pushing me to think it is just a straight up fake.

I can't weigh in on the coins, but as a rule If a seller believes an item to be MS63 and as rare as an 1874 CC, they would probably send it in to a TPG.

Wow.....I do not foresee ever in my lifetime having the coin budget to spend $5,000 + on a single coin but if I ever did I certainly would not spend it on a raw coin via ebay.

Both look genuine, AU, and cleaned. This seller is known to overgrade problem coin on 2x2 flips.

with TypeCoin. These have both been cleaned, are somewhere in the AU range although it's impossible to pinpoint a number with those photos, with the half starting to retone nicely. They are both the real deal. And yes, mark this seller down as one who lists FANTASTIC grades and information on their 2X2's which are way, way off.

Would anyone be willing to share a link to the posting on ebay? I've seen that 1852 before. I would like to know who the seller is so I can avoid them in the future.

The two long numbers in the OP are the links. The coding in this forum turns ebay item numbers into links to the items.
