1992 D Penny Date And Reverse Doubling

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/12/2017 12:01 pm It is an issue with Die Deterioration. The coin on the date is showing wear towards the rim. There reverse maybe the same thing, but not seeing the tops of the devices I can't say for sure. If the USA is showing the same thing on the tops of the devices, then it is Die Deterioration. If not, then I would need to see more of the coin to see what is going on. Report this Post to the Staff
Crazyb0 Rest in Peace 10197 Posts	Posted 01/12/2017 12:10 pm The "ghosting" effect was explained to me as a result of heat accumulated on the dies due to the higher speed of the presses and thin copper plate on zinc planchets. This seemed to show up early 90's when new press processes were introduced. IMHO an explanation as any Report this Post to the Staff
