Unknown Copper 36mm Blank Planchet - Coin Community Forum

JJSilverMan New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 04/18/2017 12:46 am I found a blank copper planchet at an antique store. There was no information written on the holder. I have measured the diameter at 36mm and weight to be 26.3 grams. I did take it to a local coin shop and they think it may be a commemorative blank (American President perhaps). Anyone have any ideas what this may be? I will post some pics if need be, but thought someone may know what it is by dimensions and content. mvojnovic Pillar of the Community Serbia (Srbija) 576 Posts	Posted 04/18/2017 12:38 pm It could be anything from error coin or deliberately polished (i see some scratches over it) coin or plaque to a piece of metal used for some machines or some sort. I never heard of that commemorative blank but it could be that too. Maybe someone else knows more. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 04/18/2017 1:40 pm Way too large and wrong composition to be a golden dollar planchet(manganese-brass, 8.1g and 26.5mm). The specs do not match any US coin and attempting to match it with a foreign coin planchet would be a difficult task at best. It is possibly a planchet intended for a privately manufactured token or medal. Report this Post to the Staff

I am making a trip to Denver, CO next month and plan on doing the mint tour there. Maybe I can take the blank with me and ask if they have any info on it.
