Not much of a gamble for 5 bucks, but hey, can't always bet the max on every hand... Feel free to chip in on what you think this 1862 Indian Head cent will actually look like / grade as when I get it in hand. My "bad seller photo" opinion is that it's probably G6 with a shot at VG8. I cropped these down to 750x from the seller's 2x2 photos, otherwise these are straight from the listing. You might get a nicer coin than pictured. I see some peoples cameras take crappy photos that make the coins surface look pitted when really it isn't - cross your fingers!!

I think it could be as nice as an F-12.
I think the "pitted" appearance is noise from inadequate lighting. You can see it on the plastic and cardboard as well.

It's VG. A Fine needs to show more of the letters of the "LIBERTY." Please, guys pull out you ANA grading guides and maintain the standards. Watering them down does not benefet collectors.

VG-06, maybe 08, but no way a Fine. Looks like the horizontal shield lines are completely gone.

Price aside, agree there could be some ED issues.

I would think VG-10 from those pictures.

Pretty pleased for 5 bucks...it is a bit darker in hand, but just a bit. No environmental damage, but does have a small nick/hit to the left of the bust and a scratch above the left wreath on the reverse...but hey, for the price...

So, what would you grade it now? I'm curious about the shield. It looks like the entire top is worn away and inconsistent with the rest of the reverse.

I would say vg10 or f12. The shield looks like a combo weak strike and/or greased die. It doesn't look like wear b/c the rim is so strong.
