Hi everybody. I'm a new member here and not really a collector. I was working on a construction site and found this 1803 Draped Bust Half Dollar(large 3). It was in the wall of the hole we were working in about 4 inches under the surface. After doing some research I understand this to be a pretty amazing find. I can't seem to find any info on how to tell which Overton it is. Any info on these coins would be greatly appreciated.   Edited by Woopnik

 and what a nice coin you found! And yes, it does look authentic but I don't know which of the Overton. Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in and answer that question. |

IMO, you should mail that beauty to NGC in Sarasota. They will certify, grade, and encapsulated the coin (probably around $20-30 plus shipping). Also, if she needs restoration, they will recommend it and only charge around $25 more. In the end, you will have a very valuable very marketable coin. I believe this would be your best route. This is the process a dealer would follow after paying you a fraction of it's value. Unbelievable find!

Wow. Amazing find. Was this a very old house, and the coin could have come there from circulation, or did it come from a collection? Doesn't really matter, am just curious.

There was a building from the 1800's we demolished. The property had been vacant for about 100 years I believe. We were running drain pipe from the gutters of the new building and I was noticing lots of debris in the walls of the trench. I was actually looking for old bottles seeing we had found quite a few of them. Then I noticed what appeared to look like a coin. Sure enough there it was.
