I came across this 1904 Morgan dollar with the letter S stamped on the eagle's chest. Is there a reason for this, or did someone just disfigure the coin for some reason?
@pinecone, first welcome to CCF. Second, single letter counterstamps can be hard to pin down definitively. One member of CCF in particular (@exoguy) or someone else here may be able to help more than me.

Yes. It's a counter stamp or it's engraved. People sometimes put initials on coins and gave them as love tokens. With just one letter....probably just someone marking their territory.
