NOTE: I am new to CCF, and am not sure if this is the correct forum to post in. If not, I'm sorry! You can tell me where to put it and I'll make a new topic there! I found an old coin collection, it was a little box, and when I opened it, my reaction was because it was FULL of Walking Liberty halves and Mercury dimes! and so I would like to know what it could be worth, and if you can help that would be great! Here is a list of all the coins in there: Dimes: (no mintmark) 1 1935 4 1936 2 1937 3 1939 3 1940 21 1941 18 1942 16 1943 22 1944 11 1945 (mintmark D) 2 1939 1 1940 2 1941 4 1942 9 1943 6 1944 3 1945 (mintmark S) 1 1940 1 1941 1 1942 1 1943 1 1944 1 1945 (dime condition is: on most of the dimes, you can see the eye, line in the mouth, some detail in the hair, and some feathers in the wings. On the reverse, some lines on the pole, and most detail in the plant) Half Dollars: (no mintmark) 1 1937 2 1939 2 1940 1 1941 8 1942 9 1943 3 1944 1 1947 (mintmark D) 1 1934 1 1936 1 1943 1 1947 (mintmark S) 2 1928 1 1942 3 1943 1 1945 1 ?8 1 ?0 (half dollar condition is: on most of the halves, you can see some of the stars on the flag, most of the flowers, stripes on the skirt, and most detail on the skirt. On the obverse, the eye, part of the line in the beak, most of the feathers in the wings) quarters: (no mintmark) 1 bicentennial (mintmark D) 1 1951 1 bicentennial quarter condition is: on the bicentennials, you can see all detail, and some luster is still there. On the silver, it is toned kinda gold, and it's got most detail on the obverse and reverse) I know! I know! I'm sorry! I'm new, and will put pictures in later, and I hope my descriptions are good enough for you!

Nice find. None of those dates are really scarce, so assuming that the condition is not really high grade, a dealer would probably pay $360-$400 ish for the lot.

I would certainly be happy finding that little box! I think BigSilver is correct in regard to what a dealer may pay for it all. If you are looking to sell, you'd probably do better selling elsewhere like ebay. The bicentennial quarters are basically worth face value unless they're a very high grade. The rest is worth at least silver melt (when not selling to a dealer ).

A small stash like that is what got me started "re-collecting" in 2013, wound up with a mason jar of silver dimes and a box of misc mixed older coins. Pretty much the same Mercury dates in fact! to the forum!

That is a nice box to find! Some pretty good advice has been given so far--it is certainly a valuable group of silver, but unless any of them are flashy uncirculated, it's going to be melt value plus a small premium for being classic US silver. My advice? Silver is in a slump right now so unless $400 will change your financial situation significantly, hold on to it and then sell on ebay when silver is at least $20/oz again. Also don't feel bad for keeping your favorite coins!

No, T-Bop, I found it in my grandparents house. Apparently my great-grandfather was also a coin collector!
