I have a few old Whitman folders albums that seem to be leaving marks on the reverse sides of the coins. I have been working to move them to 2x2 holders and add them to binders.
Are there enthusiasts out there for the Whitman type holders? Am I right in moving them out of these things to protect them?

Just a guess ... but I am thinking you might be talking about Whitman folders.
Some of them have glue on the back where the coins are pressed in.
Those can/do leave lines on the back of the coins. I am not sure if
this problem has bee fixed on newer folders.
Using albums that have plastic slides on front and back are a better
way to protect and view your coins.
Using 2x2''S and binders is also a better solution over folders.

Thanks Spence, very helpful. Yes, I meant the folders. I now have a renewed gusto to get these coins out of these old folders.

I agree that you are probably seeing the reverses being affected by glue from the folders. Your decision to move them is a good one.  |

Yes ,of cause the folders are your problem . In my personal opinion do not use press in type folders for any of your coins . Recommendations are Albums with plastic slides or 2x2 binder sheets using loose leaf binders .  |

I will say that folders are great for starting out, pulling coins from circulation. It was how I began, but I moved to albums after a few years.

When I was a kid I could only afford the cheap .35 cent Whitmans and Dansco folders.
My Canadian nickel set rusted the steel nickels and most were BU. I learned the lesson about good Albums before I put any good coins in them
