So I was going through my Ike dollars, and came across a new type 1 I didn't know about for the silver 1971 S proofs. I have looked at this in so many different ways, and I think (though extremely unlikely) that this could be a possible type 1. I do not have doubling on the Obverse but there is doubling on the reverse most noticeably in the "E". I will try and get some pictures of that posted soon.

I'm not 100% on it but, it doesn't look like a Type 1 to me.

It's just really hard to find any good description of the differences. Just minor photos here and there.
But I assume from the lack of responses that this might be a little known about variety? I've just never had this few responses from a post being up for so long.

Based on your pics, unfortunately your coin is not the Type 1 Proof Reverse.

It is the normal Type 2 Proof Reverse for 1971.

Here are pics from the PCGS site showing the Type 1 Reverse.

* The IKE GROUP Composite of 1971S Proofs, check out the Type 1 Reverse down the list for excellent close-up pics.

Check out the link Fuzzy provided. Under "Varieties" you'll find the three Earth types.

Here's a pic I made from PCGS showing the Type 1 1971-S reverse. Notice the flattened outline of the Earth to the WNW:

Edit: I used the same pic that chuckster linked to.

Ok. Thanks everyone. I tried getting on that ikegroup page before and it kept circling to the first page. That link worked a lot better. Thanks everyone for your help. That page has everything I was looking for.

You have to join the IKE GROUP to get access to all of the info/pics etc.

It's free and it's a great site for those of us that "LOVE THE Ike dollar!"

Good luck with your searches!
