I first found this in the early 1980's while digging through old books at my grandmother's house. I found it again yesterday while digging through a box of old books from my childhood bedroom.

Anyway, notice the detailed description on the type of money use to repay the debt. $15 is 5% of $300 ... which is roughly 1.23% per year over 4 years.

Some type of bond coupon is my guess. Be nice to see a complete bond and set of attached coupons (if that's what it is!).

I have no idea what I was thinking when I was reading this. Not sure where I got $300 from... the note says $500. And the period is stated as 6 months. Too much to drink while reading I guess.

this may get a more comprehensive answer if it was moved to the newly created Checks, Stocks and Bonds subforum that was recently created here on CCF.

It is a negotiable interest coupon from a promissory note.
