1961 Lincoln Memorial Cent Missing VDB- Is The Error Possible?

The VDB could not possibly be on the rim- it is part of the main design on the master dies and hubs, not added later. If it was a misplaced VDB, you would see it on hundreds of thousands or millions of coins. I do not know what you are seeing there, but it is likely a byproduct of the road rash. However, VDB initals are missing sometimes on the bust base due to excessive die polishing from refinishing the surface of the die. These are sometimes sold for a small premium(a buck or two) but the condition of the coin would negate any premium.

Hi. Thanks biokemist6. I still see an incuse V on the rim. I guess it's too much of a coincidence that a damage like this can occur and come up with the present situation. I will see where I can get a microscopic shot to verify that V and will inform you accordingly.
