Lincoln Cent Opinions

I personally associate the doubling you see on that coin as the result of machine / Strike Doubling and not a doubled die. I think others might call it the result of a deteriorated die, but I haven't been convinced as to how Die Deterioration would create it. Either way, the type of doubling on this coin is common an evident on most post-1983 zinc cents.

I believe the term "red cent" comes mostly into play when describing older copper coins which tend to darken to a brown after being exposed to the environment for a long time. A "red cent" would be one that maintained it's reddish copper coloration.
