Just a note, if the scan shows any appearance of dented rims, thats not the case, theres no corrosion.. :) Also, if its real, what is the grade? :)

justabeginner- That looks really rough and crude. It almost looks like a crude casting. Was this coin sea salvage or a metal detector find?

G'day,
these Trade dollars are commonly counterfeited.
If it looks cast, then you've got a forgery.
Check the weight.
Test to see if it's magnetic.
Let us know how you get on.

This coin of Yu Gens isn't magnetic and he can't weigh it because he doesn't have a scale over there, I was talking to him.

Peter, if it's not magnetic, is it Counterfeited?

It's an old scan and didn't enlarge well.

justabeginner- I think that the detail of the one in question is just so washed out and rough looking that it can't be real. And on the off chance that it is, then it was damaged and therefore not worth what it would be otherwise.

Hmm... If your meaning rough on the rims, it is not, just the scan, but rough anywhere else, then maybe your right, I dunno what you mean by rough though.. Thx for your opinion.. :)

Here's a larger picture of a coin I'm almost certain isn't a fake. It does have a chop in the middle of the reverse however; and two more chops on the rims.

G'day, if it's magnetic, it's a fake.
If it's not magnetic, then test the weight. Post Office scales will do the job: fakes typically weigh one-third less than correct weight. I'm not sure of the standard for this coin, but it will be about 28 grams.
