1863 IHC Question

I came across this and several other IHC in some estate rolls. Haven't been much of a penny fan in the past but trying to learn. What is this thing? Its thickness was alarming at first. I never saw anythng like it. Do they pop up very often?

Not to worry, from 1860 to 1863 and some of 1864 the cents were made of copper-nickel. Weight, 4.67g. Normal thickness for thoose years.

That's normal for that year. I'm not sure if they are rare though.

Yeah--the CuNi cents were noticeably thick--no doubt to pad those nickel mining profits for US Mint chum Wharton.
