I am going to submit this coin to NCS at the May 30 Long Beach Coin Expo. Looks like it was punched with a square nail long ago. I have had it for quite a while, and have decided to encapsulate it. Is there a forum for Colonial coins? Thanks. Dave.http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/...s/P5270015.j1766-William-Pitt-Halfpenny

Here is the reverse. https://www.coinfacts.com has fantastic research on this coin and William Pitt. Click on Colonial, then, click on 1766 Pitt Tokens, then 1766 Halfpenny. William Pitt is a personal hero of mine. He opposed the stamp act which would require anyone to purchase tax stamps for every newspaper, publication, parchment, or almanac he or she purchased. If not, it would be considered contraband. The English were trying to tax the local Colonists out of business. This was a direct infrigment of freedom of the press. William Pitt stated to the English Parliament in January of 1766, "The colonists, as subjects, are entitled to the common right of representation, and cannot be bound to pay taxes without their consent". The city of Pittsburgh,Pa. is named in his honor.1766-William-Pitt-Halfpenny

That's great history Dave. I always like hearing the historical significance behind our coins or paper money. It looks like this is the place for colonials. Thanks for sharing.

Not so much a forum but there is a national club Colonial Coin Collectors Club or C4 for short. They have a website and publish a quarterly journal. They also have a yahoo group c4online that has a website and an ongoing emaillist for regular correspondence back and forth to the group members.

Thanks everyone. I have a passion for Colonial coins as they were used in our country at its infancy. I will post a picture of one of my favorite pieces, a 1786 "Vermontensium" Ryder 7 graded F12 by PCGS soon with a little history.

Cool coin, Vermontensium. I love Colonials too. They are just hard to come by.

They are cool. Thanks mfry. The only problem is that are usually not cheap. Even coins in Good-Fine are $. Not a huge demand I would imagine otherwise I think you would see prices skyrocket. Most have unknown or tiny mintages.
