Hello! I just came across this coin the other day and I was curious if it was authentic or not and if so how much it would be worth. I know it was minted in Carson City and was the first of its kind there but that's all I know! If anyone could enlighten me on this coin I would appreciate it very much! Thanks!

I'm no expert, but that date sure looks funky to me!

Welcome to the Community!

Your coin appears to be counterfeit.

The date font is 100% wrong. In addition, the dark artificial toning is characteristic of a Chinese manufactured replica coin. The toning and manufactured "wear" is designed to fool and defraud the casual collector.

Here is a look at the date compared to a genuine coin the font on the 8 appears very different.

Definitely a counterfeit. Details are way off. Looks nothing like the real thing.

That they can make a counterfeit look toned like that is frightening.

I am not so sure that this is a fake, the date placement does look correct though a little rough (maybe dinged). I would suggest looking through this site to try and find the variety if possible. http://www.seateddollarvarieties.com/1870-CC.shtml
