I have a 1963 penny that the copper coating is coming off in spots it looks to be either aluminum or zinc underneath, I could understand this if it was a 1983 but a 63 should be 95% copper. Has anyone seen this before ?

Welcome to CC!

Most likely PMD. Plating pennies is a popular thing to do.
