Dunno if folks would be interested in an occasional post like this, but thought I'd toss one up and see if there is any interest. The idea is to post pics from ebay either of a coin you bought, didn't buy, or is still active and ask whether folks would buy it or not at the sold price (or for whatever if still active). If you did (or do) buy the coin you can follow up with a pic of the actual coin and whether it was worth it. So, would you buy this 1909 VDB Lincoln Wheat cent for the sold price of $7.49 including shipping? ebay photos There was no "magnify" option with this coin so I used ctrl(+) to enlarge it on my screen for at least a little bit more magnification.

It's in relatively good shape, considering it's 109 years old :)
It's in better shape than the other ~$8 1909's on offer at the moment

I think that if I were an ebay buyer I was probably would. It appears as if it is in at least VF condition.

Possible old cleaning and I don't like the marks in the upper right obverse field. Not a great value to me.
Bats - I like this idea, and it's something we can all get involved in. Good idea.

It looks like it could be DDO-001. I don't buy on ebay, but I do look at the coins for sale and prices realized to keep my fingers on the market pulse, cross-check Greysheet pricing, and to see what is out there. This one would catch my attention.

Yeah, color looked off, but I checked a couple other coins from the same seller and they all looked like that. Seemed a lighting issue and not a cleaning issue. Condition seemed acceptable and under that lighting I would expect minor nicks to look worse than they would appear in hand. Thinking this one is probably worth the money as is. So not a bargain and not overpaying seems about right.

So generally not a buy.
Well in the grand scheme of things I did buy it based on the exact images posted here. Yup, I shelled out $7.49 for the thing, going against the grain here I suppose.
I have a couple things to get done around here but will have time to photo and post the coin in about an hour or so. Stay tuned.

Doesn't matter if we like it or not. If you like it, and are ok with the price, is all that matters!

The thrill of picking a variety can often be worth paying a premium at times . I'm rather cheap so I don't often look fot this one. I would have paid this price to knock this die off the ist

So here are the photos I took of the coin: I'd say the seller's photos were pretty accurate. Those nicks I thought were kinda small are kinda small but they do show up. And although surprisingly only fortcollins noted the possibility, it does look a tad like DDO-001. Well, here are the close ups of the date and ERTY. Seems I am the new owner of a 1909 VDB DDO-001, FS-1101. And that is what I was hoping for when I bought it even though I wasn't sure from the pics.

Not cleaned for sure. Seems to be DDO-001. You did well.
