Hello everyone,

US coins are not my forte, so I was hoping someone could help me with this.

I found this coin in a dealer's junk silver box...when I looked at it under a loupe I discovered that the final 9 in the date seemed to be open at the bottom. Is this a variety, or possibly an error? Any information would be helpful. I can post clearer pictures of the date if needed.

I thought it might be PMD too, but what would have caused the date to bend off like that?

It certainly wasn't done when the coin was struck and there is no variety like that,
so whatever caused it, it's just damage.PMD.

That very well could have been found with a metal detector, and all sorts of things happen to coins when in the ground for a long time.

Sort of looks like a 192S1. If so, that would be rare.
