Hello all!
A new addition to my collection,
What grade do you think it comes out at? Should I send it to ICCS?
Thanks a ton!
LRC

From the pictures, looks to be about EF40 - EF45..... I wouldn't send it to ICCS, but that's my preference.

I wouldn't send it in either ... '48's are nice to have around. You'd be spending a good portion of what the coin would actually sell for. I'm not talking about Trends or full retail, but what it's actually worth. Nice coin, maybe XF-40, maybe not.

Thanks all!
I'll put it down as a 45!
As an aside, what would have been a fair price for this coin?

When grading these, I always look at the hair detail (obv.).
That area seems to be the most sensitive area, when it comes to wear.
Kruger Gray did a very good job with the reverse design of the 50 Cents, and there are many high points in the design, which act together to help protect the reverse design, much more than the obverse design, from wear.

I don't think that it's a 45 .. a 40 maybe. There is wear in the hair, eyebrow, and "horse?' on the Reverse. I think value is closer to $100 than $150, maybe 120 or 25.

EF-45, very attractive, not worth submitting.

A really quick chech for wear on the Reverse is the lion's paw where it contacts the three lion segment of the shield. If there is still a line between the top claw and the rest of the paw then it usually means that this is at least in the EF range... no line then VF range down..... this is just a quick check though as I have seen mint state coins where the whole paw appears worn.

Maybe this will help for comparison. I bought a 1948 four years ago for $137 EF-40 ICCS. You can compare it to the OP's coin and comment.

Seems at first glance pretty similar wear-wise.
I'll put it down as a solid 40 then!
Thanks all!

VF-30. Look again at Punman's EF, particularly the ear and hair detail and compare it to yours.
