Hi. I have this 1988 D Penny, and I believe several things are going on. The reverse appears to have been struck through cloth in my opinion. The obverse is a bit more complicated for me to figure out. In my research trying to understand what happened, I did come across others who have 1988 D pennies that have severe Die Deterioration as well as struck through. I did think that perhaps I have the same. I do think the possibility of shifting during the strike happened to my coin, because I see the ghost like shift taking place north of the devices on the obverse. However, I feel also as if there is something more as well. Does anyone think that someone may have altered this coin to appear as if it were a true DD? I was unable to find any other person who has come across a DD for a 1988 D. I am aware of the transitional error for that year and mint, but that is not what I have here. If anyone has an idea or opinion, I would be grateful to hear it. Thank you for taking a look.

@mm, first welcome to CCF. Second, if you hold your phone horizontal when you take the pics, they should come out correctly oriented when you post them.
