1853 A & R Quarter - Grease Filled Die?

GERMANICVS Pillar of the Community Germany 1856 Posts	Posted 07/18/2019 02:05 am I've had this coin for something like 35 years now. Nice coin with plenty of detail, and as far as I can tell, never cleaned. However, it does show a peculiar weakness at the lower reverse, specially at QU(AR.) affecting also a few of the edge beads adjacent to it. A fellow in another forum mentioned the interesting possibility this could be due to a debris (grease?) filled die. This sounds like a likely cause to me from what I have subsequently read. What do you all think - grease-filled die a possibility? Report this Post to the Staff

Is the weight within mint tolerances?
