2004-D Dime: Multiple Strike, Once Out Of Collar?

Numisma Pillar of the Community United States 4963 Posts	Posted 04/20/2021 12:38 pm This initially looked like a regular uncentered broadstrike, but it appears to have some distorted reeds along most of the edge. What say ye? The diameter is maybe a millimeter larger than normal, but I unfortunately don't have my calipers or scale available at the moment. Edge at 2:00 and 7:00. There's just a little bit of collar contact in some areas. I actually got this as part of a 2-coin lot for $4. The other is nearly identical, but is a proper partial collar strike. mikediamond Pillar of the Community United States 2740 Posts	Posted 04/20/2021 9:39 pm I was asked for my opinion. This is a genuine uncentered broadstrike whose edge was damaged after the strike. The oblique ridges on the edge were produced when the coin got stuck in the tube of a coin-counting machine (or similar apparatus). These oblique ridges are seen fairly often on oversized coins (broadstrikes and off-center strikes, primarily). Error coin writer and researcher. Report this Post to the Staff
