Picked this up today wanted to see what y'all thought about it one sold on ebay for about $130 in vf30 the book I go by is way off for what it recently sold for on price what do y'all think it's worth. Thanks    |

Yea I figured it probably wasn't worth a lot more than I paid but it was kind of weird we're 2 of them both vf30 sold 6 days apart for over $100 like you said must be bidding it up.

@matthew23, what book are you using for pricing? I'd say that one is graded solid with good eye appeal. $40-$50 would be my price range for VF25, $5 more for VF30. Edit: was actually browsing Ebays "ending soon" auction listings on Morgan's earlier (first time in awhile) and was surprised by what a majority were selling for. Granted a good handful were clearly uninformed buyers. Maybe it's time to unload some Morgan's  Edited by Ty2020b

I'm not a Morgan guy but I typically trust Numismedia for general pricing, so now I'm confused. They have VF20 at $46 and XF40 at $62, AU50 $180. NGC says VF $60, XF $75. Maybe they're cherrypicking something at $130?

I have been using cdn market review price guide it's Greysheets retail price guide it lists it for $54. I forgot about numismedia price guide have used that as well.

Numismedia would be around $50 like the other price guide I'm guessing somebody wanted a 1901 s on ebay bad in that grade to bid it up that high. |

I think Coinfrog is referring to the $130 someone else paid in the VF30, not the unknown price you acquired this one for. Agreed, Numismedia is also a great source.

That's what I thought he was referring to I paid $50 I was just suprised somebody paid that much for one like that.

The market for the VF 1901 S in a NGC or PCGS holder has increased. The recent ebay sales are as follows: 3/27 PCGS $100 VF35, 4/19 NGC $103 VF30, 4/25 PCGS $127 VF30. This coin in a TPG holder in VF is currently selling for more than the price guides. If you paid $60 or less for your coin, you made a good buy in the current market. Based on recent sales, I am putting a market value on your ANACS VF25 at $70. |

I think, in general, Morgan's and Peace dollars are all seeing an increased interest for several reasons and the price increases are a direct result. May be just the tip of the iceberg..., |

Greysheet is $38 so a good retail price is probably in the $45 to $55 range. It's important to remember, however, that people buy the coin not the holder so there may be cases where a particular coin is more valuable than the slab would indicate. For uncirculated coins, great toning can bring a 300% or more premium. For circulated coins, variety (i.e. die state) can also add rarity and bring a premium even if not noted on the slab. TPG's also screw up the grades frequently. If I see a 66 in a 64 holder, for example, I'll know it's a 66 and I'll bid it way up. Not uncommon for old holders since there has been a lot of grade inflation. Edited by fenton
