Hi all, I recently purchased two Morgan dollars. Can anyone give me a quote on the condition of the coins and value. They look real to me but I know they are rare dates and marks so I'm being on the fence.   |

I wish that for educational purposes that responders would give a detailed analysis of their observations stating why they believe a particular coin is fake or not. Both of these coins are indeed key dates and a likely target for counterfeiters but I am still curious about the observations especially without any testing for weight, composition or magnetism. If these are fake, please tell us why so that we may learn to spot them easier.

...and BEFORE you buy any coins, people will be happy to help telling you whether or not the coin(s) is/are fake or what the grade is. I have seen too many posts where the "deed was done" and remorse came afterwards. |

 Sorry, they're both definitely fake. You really just need to look at a lot of real examples to get a feel for it. Some observations:  The exposed metal has a flat, gray tone that isn't quite natural. They have fake dark toning/circulation cameos around the devices. This is something that develops on genuine circulated coins, so it's added by Chinese counterfeiters to mimic wear and hide flaws. They haven't quite gotten it to match the real thing, though. The rims are too narrow. |

Personally, I'd like to see close-ups of each coin, both sides, on separate threads for review. I respect Numisma's knowledge, but find these comments somewhat superficial. |

CC Morgan's are faked a lot I just bought a 83 cc but it was graded don't like buying these cc Morgan's unless they are graded to many fakes like these 2.

Also is pretty scarce/rare to see those 2 dates (espec 85cc) in anything but unc, or close.
