my initial thought upon seeing the second coin was that we might be looking at a transfer die counterfeit. after looking closer there are enough small differences that I dont think that is correct.

i spoke with a friend of mine who knows these coins better than I do. he thought that both coins are struck through die grease. interestingly that would mean that the two coins would have to have been struck relatively close to each other in time.

i have never seen 2 coins struck through the same blob of grease (hence me saying that I didnt think such a thing could be). I trust his opinion and consider myself corrected.
