I apologize for the poor quality pictures. I can post better ones if they are needed. Has anyone seen something like this before?

Hard to tell from pictures shown, but it looks like corrosion around the A in AMERICA.

A better close-up (i.e. not a photograph of the computer screen) would be very helpful, but based on what I'm seeing with the current pic, I think that it is likely damage, perhaps a bit of a Rim Fin that has been bent over and deposited next to the letter A.
