I was going to ask the same thing about 2000's. I've been tracking my finds over my last 18 boxes and every once in a while I'll find a 2000 that I swear could be a proof. They must have done something different that year with their process.
As for the pictures of the proof. I can't get the camera I have to focus clearly enough. I've found a lot of interesting finds over 18 boxes that I wanted to share but so far to no avail.
Good luck "Hunting".

Quote: every once in a while I'll find a 2000 that I swear could be a proof. No, They just re worked over the master dies, I think, and cleaned it up and detailed the heck out of it. It has great detail and usually you find 6 step nickels from then on fairly easy to locate, picking back up again with the return to Monticello reverse to date. A very similar situation occurred in 1971. Compare a 1970 D or 1970 S detail with the 1971. You'll see what I mean. Look at a recent proof and they are cameo white frosted almost all the time with black mirror fields. Some of the business strikes actually might appear sharper than proofs due to the frosting.

I had a great box tonight. I FINALLY found a 1990 no FS. The box also contained two 1938P's, 1-1947S, 1-1951S (first in 25 boxes), 1 1954S and a 1959P with 5 visible steps.
Overall I would say this was my best box out of the 25 I have kept track of.

Does the 1990 D's without FS carry a premium?

Slow start to my 7th (or 8th) box. nothing of note for the first 35 or so rolls. pulled a 43S, then a 1905 Liberty Head, and a 1938, and then finally a 42P. managed to fill 3 more holes in my folder, only 15 left.

NICE! none of my pre-60 coins have ever been nice. I consider myself lucky if jefferson has any hairlines at all.

Jedi,
I normally get one or two decent pre60 nickels per box. If you keep searching I'm sure you'll find some!!
Good luck to you.

Has anyone looked at the production figures of the 2009 nickels? It looks like that one might be way under produced. They are at 70,000,000 after 3 months. That is a 280,000,000 run rate with 140m per mint. That is way down compared to prior years. http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_min...09#starthere-SFWUSC
