I went thru my first box of nickels today and found a 1926 VG-08 no S bummer and a F-15 1938-S and a 1943-s in F-15 that was cool. I found about a roll worth of 30's 40's and 50's combined. not bad

I went through some boxes this evening and found a 1939D. I was very happy when I turned over the coin and saw it had a "D".

I just scored a VG 1939-D, too! I've found three 1939-P's in rolls, still no 1939-S yet (or 1950-D )...

Also 1946-P, 1946-D, 1947-S, two 1959-D's and an AU 1968-S.

Ironically, I got a 1938-S and an AU 1951-P in my change recently (on the same day!), when I took a little break from Nickel roll hunting....

Nice finds. I remember as a 12 year old (40 yreas ago) trying to fill a whitman nickel books and remembering how hard it was finding the S mint marked nickels. Every time we found one it was like winning the lottery. Happy Hunting Everyone

The new box got me a 1913 and 1934 Buffalo nickel and a 1902 V nickel. A 44-D and a few D-S-mint mark nickels from the 40's and 50's.

Just went through a box and found some S mint marked pre-60 coins. 2-1941s, 1-1947, 1-1948: 1-1952, 1-1953.

I just recovered nine rolls of pre-1960 nickels that I rolled back in the 80's when I was a teen...supposed to be a cold weekend...I may have to browse through them.

success,

UPDATE - Nothing rare or unusual (sigh ) a few 38-P's, 39-P's, and the remainder 40's and 50's, and half a dozen silver war nicks.

I've gone through 3 boxes, and my best finds were
Box 1
38 in VF
42D in VF
45P in pretty bad condition
Box 2
44S
Box- nothing except a 53 in I swear MS69 or 70, I mean it has full steps, no scratches (looked with an 8x loop) and just an increadible shine.
I really haven't been finding as much as I thought I would pre 59 wise.

Cole You might have a proof, that does not sound typical for a business strike 1953. Strikes were typically much weaker than that even for Gem BU's.
Yes we need a picture or two and take care of that nick!

Here's the '53, I promise the pic doesn't do the justice, and I don't think It's a proof for the lack of the cameo, because all proofs have a cameo right? I could be wrong but that's what I thought. I'll try to figure out how to get a better picture of this because I swear It's an AMAZING COIN!

(how can I get it to not look dark and orangish?)

That's a nice looking 53 and no not all proofs have cameo especially the ones from the 50's.
