Hi all, just wanted to gloat a bit about my latest acquisition. My S-VDB showed up today and that completes my set, until I look at those empty holes for the doubled dies and '22 plain. I haven't gotten around to taking pictures yet, but when I do, you KNOW that I'll be posting them here!![:p]

That had been my problem for the past few years. I finally caught up with it though.

Congrats- what a great feeling. What is next, now that you've conquered lincolns?

Well, I have several "ongoing" collections, and I am always looking to upgrade my "complete" collections. But my current quest is a XF/AU set of Canadian Large Cents 1858-1920. Got any?

[/quote] Alas no. I had no idea Canada minted large cents well into the 20th century. I imagine the Canadian dollar was worth more than it's US counterpart in that time period?

I am not sure why Canada minted large cents for as long as they did. The U.S. had already given up on large cents by the time this series had started. I've got a couple of Canadian reference books ordered, can't wait to learn more.
(Boy, if I only wanted to learn this bad way back in high school!!)

It was on ebay. I had been looking on ebay as well as several on line dealers. Went to a few shows, even to a couple of out of town dealers trying to locate one before I found this one. Finding them isn't really a problem, finding an authenticated, problem free example for decent money, now that's where the challenge comes in. In my quest I found more Uncertified examples than I could shake a stick at. Most of the certified examples are high grade (and high money). The circulated grades in slabs, I noticed, are quite prone to problems such as corrosion, cleaning, scratches, filled dies, etc. When I did see nice circ. slabbed examples, you would expect to see an Unc. coin for the prices that they were asking. It must be noted that National Dealer played a part in my purchase. Even though he wasn't part of the actual transaction, his insight as to fair market prices saved me quite a bit of money. Patience played a major part, as I was prepared to spend more for less, but ND taught me that you CAN PASS on a coin, there will be another. Do not settle for a coin just because you've found it, make sure that it is a purchase that you will be satisfied with for years to come. More than likely if you buy a coin that you've settled for, a better example will be right around the corner but you've already spent you're money on the inferior coin.
