Edit: I've split as many of the extraneous comments from the original topic as I could, in the interest of making it more readable. I apologize to any poster who might be offended by my choice of what to split; I'm trying to keep everything in the original thread as on-topic as I can, and not making judgements as to the quality of the posts contained in this split thread.

I just googled the CHDK hack and my camera is not supported, I knew it was getting a little old. Maybe I'll have to get a new one. Now I just need to convince my wife.

Quick question - there's been mention of shooting in RAW and 16 bit. I know where to find the RAW setting (only available when shooting with manual settings on this Canon) but is there another setting or name that the 16 bit setting is under? I can't find anything like that.
Thanks (and thanks again for this thread - I'm learning a lot)!

Forgive me - it's been a busy week and in addition to everything else I'm serving on a jury. The next installment will come on Friday, my next day off.

I bought a 8MP sony point and shoot camera near Christmas time but I still use the 3MP camera to take shots of coins because the sony doesn't do well with the lights I have

Bravo! Waiting forward for the next step. I think we can all learn something important here and I have to ask what store can I buy a "superdave" so he can take some great photos?

Just letting you know I haven't forgotten this project. Hopefully the next installment will appear tomorrow. We're going to finish tweaking the process with the Large Cent, and then in individual posts I'm going to shoot a 3CN, a worn Morgan and a PL Morgan to see what changes are required.

This is great. I think I joined this "community" at the right time. I know sooner or later, someone will ask me for a picture of one of my coins.
Thanks, SuperDave!

Super Dave, Super topic and excellent job with description thus far on shooting coins. I have toyed with trying different coin shots after reading a couple of articles in Coin World and the numismatist. I must say your doing an excellent job here in the forum. I look forward to following through your lesson. Thanks for the time you have and will put into doing this. What a great service to the group!
