SuperDave hasn't abandoned this thread just please remember he is doing this (taking the pictures and writing about the settings so everyone can understand them) in his spare time, and as we all know during different times of the year there isn't very much spare time as there are in other times. I am sure once he has a chance to slow down a little he will continue this tutorial for everyone
Rest in Peace

Bumping this great thread to the top. Maybe someone can take up the torch, and post the last installments to make it complete.

And then maybe it'd be sticky-worthy.

Superdave, this is the first I have rad of your posts, ot maybe I should say thread. I coincidently bought a Canon, A590 IS, (I went to canon,. and was referred to Canon USA, where I bought the camera). It is 4X optical, and 8MP digi. It camr with a 16MB stick, and a 32 GB stick. So much for my camera. I will comntinue to read the thread, and ask questions, as I go, so don't be sutprised. I looked at your "setup", and see you are a "man-after-my-own-heart"! I will make good use of the details visible in the photo, even the QX3! LOL

I had never heard of CHDK Hack, but looked ot up and basically, you "Hack' into your cameras memory, and add some files, to allow it to do a bit more that the particular model was allowed to do. Not all cameras are the same, even with the same Panufacturer. The design characteristics desired for a particular model, will be "allowed" to perform more, or less tasks than the others. I still am not sure I can make my camera work with remote operation,, but I'll tyry., (after I learn how to turn the darn thing on)!

My question is: <"what is RAW, and 16 bit"? Does it have a "place on the Canon A590 IS? I have rad the book thre,or four times, and still have to refer to it to sety up, and shoot. I haven't been able to duplicate the first shot I made of a cent, sitting on a ramp, at about 8,or 10 inches. Thanks,
Dick
