Starman Valued Member United States 100 Posts	Posted 04/13/2009 8:47 pm went into an antique shop with the folks for the heck of it and came out with a 1942-D Walker half dollar. It appears to be in vg-8 condition, it was only 3.50$ so I couldnt pass it up. And it has some glue type residue in 4 spots will acetone remove this? how long do you think I should leave it in and will it damage the coin in any way? thanks Report this Post to the Staff

BH1964 Bedrock of the Community United States 10982 Posts	Posted 04/13/2009 9:30 pm Go ahead and drop it in some acetone. With $3.50 in it, you don't have much to lose except some grime! Acetone should not harm silver coins. Swish it around for a few seconds then let it soak for an hour or two. Remove and hold under running water then pat dry. Good Luck! ($3.50 was a great price!) Tim Stroud Pillar of the Community United States 2661 Posts	Posted 04/14/2009 6:27 pm I had some coins with glue residue on them also. Soaked them for nearly 2 weeks and could not get it off. 10 minutes in a water bath and PRESTO! they were clean. So if the acetone don't work for ya just try water. Distilled preferably.
