This is a dug coin (metal detecting find) and I understand that takes away from the value but just for fun I thought I post the pictures to see what kind of grade it would bring in.

This coin has great AU details but a lot of porosity from being in the ground.

Welcome to the forum!

I would say that this cent has strong VF details; easily VF-20, probably VF-30. You are right that the environmental damage does significantly reduce the value, but you have unearthed a neat little piece of history!

I'd give it a VF-25. Th earth can really work on copper, but you can always wonder who touched it before you!

That is an AMAZING find! Congrats! I'll shoot down the center and give it XF-40 details, though it's difficult to distinguish wear in these photos.
