I called a guy the other day, he was willing to pay $1.25 for 40% halves, and 9X for 90% halves. I'm assuming he'd probably pay 9X for junk morgans since silver is silver.

Seems like a seller would be getting shortchanged at a $1.25 for 40% halves. If a buyer is paying 9x face for 90% silver, that means he would pay $1.80 for 2 silver dimes that has slightly less silver content than 1 40% half that he is only paying %1.25 for? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Most dealers will pay a premium for silver dollars even if they're junk, culls, polished, etc. Don't accept 9X face for junk silver dollars unless silver is under $11 and right now it's over $14!

You should be able to get 10X face for junk 90% this week and at least $12 for junk silver dollars.

Your "hoard" should bring about $250 and if you're offered much less - take your business elsewhere.

hey those Morgans have more silver than two halves. Don't see them for 9x face. ebay has 40% halves going for close to $2 each. I wouldn't sell them for less than $1.75.

I mean the dealer is going to resell them for a profit, but I mean that guys margins are to high.

Morgans are worth $11 in just silver and they have collector value above that.
Halves are worth $5.10 in silver and have collector value above that.
40% halves are worth pretty much just the silver value at $2.10, but that usually get a haircut due to the high cost of refining it.

I will buy the Morgans for more than $11. I will give $78 shipped for the 5 morgans and 1 peace unseen.

I would say the JFK 90% halves are pretty much just worth silver too unless they are in really good shape.

Just don't sell those Morgans for silver.

It may seem that way but not really. 40% silver does not have a great demand due to the fact that the refinery costs to extract that silver are much higher than for 90% or sterling silver. For that reason, .900 and .925 are closer to spot than lower purities of silver.

I also agree with bherring1964 that you should get more for silver dollars than regular 90% because face-for-face, dollars have a higher silver content than halves, quarters, and dimes.

The biggest dealer in town pays $1.25 for 40% halves and 9x face for 90%. Silver dollars yield $10-$12 each.
