Help me understand at what point the coin was soaked. Which images were taken before and after the coin was soaked?
There is clearly some PMD in image 3 that is not apparent in image 1 or 2.

Thanks,
NYI

1, 2, 3 taken 2 days ago on 6/19. The gunk in the three photos in your quote should be evidence of that. Last photo provided was after acetone but stains are still mostly there.

What PMD are you referencing?

PMD does not appear in images 1 and 2.

I'm not sure what the suggestion is here but I suspect lighting and mag/focus, but the stains are identical in all 3 photos. No matter, photos 2 and 3 both show the flared G.

NY, I let this be earlier, figured it would play out correctly but obviously not. As the OP just stated, you can clearly see all of the stains/verdigris in the same exact places from pic to pic.... Don't think the OP is going to go through the trouble of matching stains exactly to make us think they have a variety. This is becoming silly.

You can choose to agree with the OP this is a 1988 LMC FS-901, or not. I do not believe the initial full faced reverse image of the coin is the same as the enlarged images provided and have stated why. I'm not making a judgement as to the OP's intent or motive. If you believe the exercise is "silly" so be it.

They are the same coin to me - just match the stains. Slightly different camera angles and full coin pics vs closeups can add or subtract different details in pictures. Plus the OP said he soaked the coin in acetone.

Wow, first I'm flattered that anyone would think this to be trickery. Second, I'd like to offer to drive this coin to NYI for inspection.

Even before degunkification, the first three photos should tell the story. Again, if you believe I am going to any lengths to create a story, I'm flattered that you think I have the time or the skill to do so.

Driving the coin to me seems less than productive and expensive. If you want to get a true stamp of authenticity and shut me up (I'd gladly eat crow), submit to any of the verification services, post the process and results. I think a coin of this rarity and condition would serve to support that expense.

Otherwise, call me a skeptical cynic of your 1988 LMC FS-901. I look forward to your verification efforts.

I'm outside Philly these days and quite wrongly assumed you were near NYC.

HOWEVER, I had planned on submitting this to a TPG anyway, and I'm glad we're of the same mind in that regard. I don't think it's really in that great of shape but authentication could only help.

Typically, if someone throws down the gauntlet, they offer to pay for the TPG fees if it comes back as the OP has stated.

ADDED. pound_foolish, if "someone" offers to do this and it doesn't come back as an authentic FS-901 (RDV-006), I will pay your fees.

Not surprised by this comment and somewhat expected it or no reply at all. The old adage, "put your money where your mouth is", says a lot. I know for sure where you stand now NY, shame....

pound_foolish, my offer still stands with a stipulation, even though we have weakness on the other side.... I will pay for the TPG services if it does not come back as we have previously stated, but you need to send it to one of the big three, Wexler, cc or VV and get a letter from them stating it is what it is, to send along with the coin to the TPG. The TPG's are just not what they used to be, or maybe never were....

A good idea. I have a few other cents to send over to Dr. Wiles.
